“The Confident Mind” by Dr. Nate Zinsser is another one of those books that found me at the right time I needed it in my life! I first discovered this book as I was more than neck deep in a full home remodel where I had to renovated every single square inch of the property from the roof to the driveway to the interior paint, exterior paint, bathrooms, kitchen, bedrooms, flooring and the whole 9 yards! Original timeliness were slipping, budget was running out, stress levels were rising and the project seemed far from complete and smack dab in the middle of the hardest technical challenges of it. The project pushed my will and resolve to the limit, but when I discovered this audiobook while I was working on the project, l actually listened to it twice, back-to-back, to boost my morale and to make my resolve bulletproof to finish what I started.
Before reading the book, I started from a place of fear and worry -where thoughts of failure kept creeping into my mind about not being able to finish the project. After finishing “The Confident Mind”, I then won the first victory in my mind over the home renovations where I knew I would be successful -I only entertained that thought in my mind- and I visualized myself at the finish line and feeling the emotions of how good it would feel to have successfully completed the project. I began listening to affirmations every single day (and sometimes every single night as I went to sleep) for positive self-talk and self-love as I muscled my way through the most difficult and challenging parts of the renovations. After achieving victory in my mind and holding it there as the only entertainable outcome, I then achieved victory in real life and finished the project at the end of 2022 after a year of nonstop, difficult and intensive renovation work. The principals in this book work, and they found me exactly when I needed them in my life.
